Check your chimney…

rotted chimney trim

This trim is rotted

This is an often overlooked item of repair for many homes: the chimney trim. From the ground, all may look fine. But up close and personal, it is a different story. What usually happens is the caulking shrinks or cracks and the paint starts to peel. This lack of maintenance allows water to seep into the joints. Over time, the water rots out the trim and can rot out siding, framing, decking, and cause other issues in the home or attic.

If it’s been a while since you painted your chimney or checked out the trim, please check it out. The cost to replace damaged trim is a lot less than repairing the other damage. If your ladder isn’t tall enough to reach, or you aren’t able to check it out yourself, please feel free to call Rainy Day for a free evaluation.
